Description
Cultivating Compassion: Understanding Ourselves A six-week evidence-based Compassionate Mind Training programme. Starts Tuesday 6th October 2026 1.00pm–2.30pm Have you ever found yourself overthinking, worrying, being hard on yourself or wondering why your mind reacts the way it does? This six-week, evidence-based course helps you understand why this happens and offers practical skills to help you respond with greater compassion, confidence and understanding. Through guided compassion practices, practical teaching and reflection, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how your brain, body and emotions work together. You'll learn ways to support your nervous system, develop a more supportive inner voice, strengthen your relationships through compassionate communication, and discover practical approaches to working more skilfully with worry, self-criticism and difficult emotions in everyday life. This programme was developed by Professor Frances Maratos, Chartered Psychologist and Professor of Psychology at the University of Derby, whose work in compassion, emotional wellbeing and education is internationally recognised. Research shows that Compassionate Mind Training can: • reduce stress, anxiety and self-criticism • improve emotional regulation and wellbeing • increase self-compassion • support more compassionate relationships with ourselves and others This course may be particularly helpful if you: • would like to understand and navigate stress, overwhelm or life changes • work in education, healthcare, mental health or another people-focused role • work or volunteer within a school, NHS or wellbeing setting • spend a lot of time caring for others and would like to extend some of that compassion towards yourself • are simply curious about understanding your mind and developing a more compassionate way of relating to yourself and others Each session includes gentle teaching, guided compassion practices, opportunities for reflection and discussion, and practical ideas that you can begin using in everyday life between sessions. Course format: 6 weekly sessions | 90 minutes Small group | Maximum 12 participants Please note: There will be no session during half term on Tuesday 27th October 2026. Delivered by Joanna Rose, who trained in Compassionate Mind Training with Professor Frances Maratos through Mindfulness Wales.
