Mentoring is offered independently through Joanna Rose Wellbeing as part of my work within the MiSP Mindfulness Mentoring Network.

Children bring their whole selves into school, their curiosity and excitement, but also their worries, frustrations, friendships and busy minds. Mindfulness can help them make sense of some of this, while supporting the attention, confidence and self-awareness they need to learn and take part in school life.

In my own classroom, I’ve seen children begin to recognise when their attention has wandered, understand why something feels difficult, pause before reacting or use what they have learnt to support a friend. One child told me, “It helps me concentrate better.” Another said, “I have learnt that I can choose how to respond rather than react.”

Mindfulness doesn’t mean that everyone will be calm or that difficult feelings will disappear. For me, it offers a way of becoming a little more curious about what is happening in our minds and emotions. When children and adults have opportunities to explore this together, it can create a shared language for talking about these experiences, and perhaps bring a little more choice, understanding and compassion into the way we respond to ourselves and one another.

'I looked forward to the course every week. The sessions were informative and extremely enjoyable. The training  was carried out in a happy and relaxed environment and I feel that the techniques I have learnt have truly changed my life. Jo is an inspirational teacher.'
